by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Ladies can get away for a weekend of yoga, meditation, hiking and fellowship at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Eco-Yoga Retreat for Women May 4-6.

A certified yoga instructor will lead participants in four yoga sessions over the course of the three days.  Other activities will include interpretive bird and wildflower hikes, evening campfires and strolling along the Makanda Boardwalk and visiting its artisan shops.

The event begins with check-in from 4 to 5 p.m. on May 4 and the retreat starts in earnest at 5 p.m.  Activities wrap up about 11 a.m. on May 6.

The commuter price is $150 per person and that covers all meals and activities.  In addition, lodging is available.  You can spend retreat nights in the Shawnee Lodge, where rooms have a shared bathroom and common area, and the cost is $70 per person for a single room or $35 per person for double occupancy.  The Little Grassy Lodge option includes an en suite restroom and the lodging is $100 per person for a single room or $50 each for double occupancy.

Touch of Nature Environmental Center and Recreational Sports and Services are sponsoring the retreat, saying it will “awaken your senses through the practice of yoga in the splendor of nature.”

Space is limited so organizers suggest signing up early.  To register, or for more information, call 618/453-1121.  Payment by all major credit cards is acceptable.
