Faculty, staff welcome at workshop

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Everyone is different and those differences can sometimes lead to difficulties.

An upcoming workshop for faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will focus on addressing and diffusing workplace conflict.

“The Value of Voltage:  Connect the Disconnects” is the Labor and Employee Relations presentation set for 9:30-11 a.m. on March 29 at the Student Health Center Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss the importance of getting the facts, prioritizing, being specific and focusing on the most relevant issues in order to improve communication and find positive solutions to problems.  She notes that one negative attitude or action can have a significant impact on the people we encounter on the job, so projecting a professional image at all times is vital.  She will talk about accountability, taking responsibility for our actions and developing solutions to problems through focused communication.

All campus faculty and staff may attend the free workshop.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
