School of Music to host two guest recitals

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale welcomes two musicians for guest recitals.

First up is Timothy Schmidt, assistant professor at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, where he teaches applied voice, presents opera workshops and works with theater productions.

Schmidt will be on campus for a free guest recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. on March 23 at the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.

Schmidt’s recent performances include poems from Lewis Carroll, including “Jabberwocky,” set to music, and a collection of five Shakespeare sonnets set to music. 

Rajung Yang, pianist, will be on campus for a free guest recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. on April 3 at the Old Baptist Foundation Recital Hall.

Yang is assistant professor of piano at the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton School of Music.  A native of Seoul, South Korea, Yang holds degrees from Seoul National University and from the University of Michigan. She is an advocate of contemporary music, and has promoted contemporary piano music at music festivals in Asia, Europe and the United States.
