SIU Carbondale to host teacher career fair

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A teacher career fair at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on March 28 offers students, alumni, and community members a look at opportunities in teaching and other education-related careers.

The Teacher Career Fair runs 9 a.m. to noon in Student Center Ballroom B.

Career Services designed the fair primarily for those seeking full-time employment as teachers or as other school personnel, and who will be in the job market for the 2012-2013 academic year.  However, the fair also gives education and prospective education majors the option of learning now about what prospective employers expect.

Job seekers should bring multiple copies of their résumés and any other credentials, and should dress appropriately for a job search and possible interviews.

Schools seeking teachers and other employees come to the fair from the region, but also from Kentucky and Missouri, and a charter school in Chicago will be on campus as well, as will several from central Illinois.

A résumé-writing workshop is set for 3-3:50 p.m. on March 21 in the Career Services Conference Room, located in Woody Hall B204.  The workshop is a good place to learn skills to make a résumé stand out from the pack and increase the chance of a successful job search.
