Wellness Center offering nutrition seminars

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- What, when and how we eat affects our health and well-being and you can discover how to “eat for the health of it” at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Health Services’ Nutrition Seminars.

The Student Health Services Wellness Center is offering a variety of one-hour weight control/healthy eating nutrition seminars for students throughout the semester.  You’ll discover healthy, quick and cheap meal ideas, how alcohol affects your weight, and how to know if you’re eating a balanced diet.  The seminars will also explore how many calories you actually need and whether it’s better to eat three larger meals or six mini-meals each day.

You can also pick up a number of helpful handouts including recipes, snack ideas, dining out tips, facts about body fat and much more.  Titles include:  Comprehensive Shopping List, Recipe Book, Casserole Chart, George Foreman Recipes, Quick N’ Easy Slap-Together Meal Ideas, Snack Suggestions, How to Eat Out, Helpful Nutrition Websites, Myths & Facts on Body Fat and Eating Healthy in the Residence Hall Booklet.

There is a $6 charge to attend.  Find the complete schedule of dates and times for the nutrition seminars at www.shc.siu.edu on the Student Health Services’ events calendar.  Seating is limited as workshops are limited to small groups.  Register at the Wellness Center or by calling 618/536-4441.  Check in for seminars at the Wellness Center at the Student Health Services building.
