Ten Questions with ... Tim Marlo
Job on campus/department you work in: Controller for the SIU Alumni Association
How long at SIUC: Six years in my current position plus four years as a student.
Hometown: Marion
When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? Chef
If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? I would either be a puppeteer for the Muppets or a finance professor. I think either job would allow me to entertain while expanding my mind.
What is something you still want to accomplish in life? Get my Ph.D.
People don’t know that you … play the saxophone and taught lessons for many years.
Who inspired you and how? Donna Margolis at the College of Business. She has been more than a mentor in my life and I owe much to her.
What was the first “album” you ever bought, and was it an LP, 8-track or CD? “One Night in Bangkok” from the Chess Musical -- It was an LP. If you have not ever heard of it, you are missing out.
If you could pick an actor/actress to play you in a movie, who would you pick, and why? Angela Lansbury. I think it would a challenging role for her.
What is your pet peeve? Why? Bubblegum. The sound of chewing disgusts me.
Favorite cartoon character? Why? Donald Duck. I love the fact that you have no idea what he is actually saying but you still know what he means. It hits close to home for me.
What would you like your gravestone to say about you? I just hope they don’t add a “W” at the end of my name like everyone always does. It’s M-A-R-L-O!
