WED degree program to be available in Springfield
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A new off-campus degree program site is coming to Springfield, allowing area residents to earn a Workforce Education and Development bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The Workforce Education and Development (WED) department has offered the accelerated bachelor’s degree program for more than 35 years and the program is now coming to the Center for Workforce Development in Montgomery Hall on the campus of Lincoln Land Community College. A series of open house events in early November and December will highlight the program, offer important information, and answer questions.
The SIU Carbondale program is traditionally quite popular with working adults, including active and former military personnel. It utilizes a blended weekend and online class format to allow them to complete the 36-semester hour program to earn a bachelor’s degree in Workforce Education and Development with an Education, Training and Development Specialization. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 7, 2012.
SIU Carbondale faculty will offer advisement and counseling on site, too, showing interested individuals how they can qualify for the program through combined criteria including coursework from accredited colleges and universities, associate degrees, work experience and previous military or technical/professional training.
The open house schedule, with all sessions at Montgomery Hall/Center for Workforce Development at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, includes:
• Wednesday, Nov. 2, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m.
• Thursday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 3-6 p.m. and a special presentation 6-7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 1, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
