Youth Showcase has new date, location

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- There is a new date and location for the 2011 Carbondale Youth Showcase.  The event is now set for 6:11-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Carbondale Community High School Auditorium, 1301 E. Walnut St.

Scheduling conflicts led to the change of date and location for the event from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and the Speaking and Teaching registered student organization.  Originally planned for Nov. 1 at the Carbondale Civic Center, the showcase is both a performance vehicle for local children and a school supply collection event.

The showcase is free and open to the public.  Children from kindergarten through sixth grade from Carbondale elementary schools, churches and youth programs will perform, showing off their artistic talents.  And, while there is no cost to get in, organizers are asking those attending to bring assorted school supplies.  They will, in turn, distribute donated supplies to local schools and after school programs.

Showcase participants will leave the event with certificates, trophies, gifts, school supplies and snacks.
