Army ROTC sponsoring run/walk around campus

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps is hosting its third 5K run/walk and 10K run around campus on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The event begins at 9 a.m., and is open to all ages.  The registration fee is $20.  Each entrant will receive a goody bag and T-shirts are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The run/walk registration is also available at the event.

Packet pickup will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Oct. 29, at Kesnar Hall, 1225 Douglas Drive.  The event begins and finishes at Kesnar Hall.

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the event.  SIU Carbondale U.S. Army ROTC staff members and participating ROTC cadets will be available for interviews beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29.  Contact Capt. The Illinois Veterans Home in Anna will receive proceeds from a silent auction.  Race proceeds will go to the ROTC cadet registered student organization to help increase training opportunities for future U.S. Army officers now attending SIU Carbondale.

The top three overall male and female run participants, along with the top three male and female participants in each run age group, will receive awards.

Event organizers encourage participants to wear costumes, and welcome leashed dogs to also participate.
