CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Campus Sustainability Day 2011 celebrates work at Southern Illinois University Carbondale to go green.

Set for Wednesday, Oct. 26, it includes a variety of events from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Center.  The Green Fair, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Art Gallery (formerly the Hall of Fame) and the Roman Room, is a showcase of campus sustainability efforts.  The Green Fair is free and open to all.

Those attending can view displays highlighting green or sustainability initiatives from the Student Center and numerous other campus departments, student organizations and community groups.  In addition to the Student Center, exhibitors include the Sustainability Council, Eco Dawgs, Southern Sustainability, Saluki Heritage Interpreters, Restoration Club, Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge and more.  The University’s WIDB radio will also be providing music and programming.

You can take a campus green tour, exploring the ongoing initiatives to enhance the University’s sustainability and efforts to go green.  Tours will depart from the Roman Room at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Saluki Spokes will offer a workshop as well, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the north entrance of the Student Center.  It’s your chance to learn the basics of bicycle maintenance and repair.

Event organizers encourage people to don green in recognition of SIU Carbondale’s continuing efforts toward a green, sustainable future.  For more information about Campus Sustainability Day, visit the website at www.siucstudentcenter.org.
