Flags lowered to honor war casualty
Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a former Effingham soldier killed last week in fighting in Afghanistan.
Flags are to be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset, Wednesday, Sept. 28, in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Timothy D. Sayne.
Reports said Sayne, 31, died Sept. 18 in a roadside bomb attack in Kandahar Province.
Sayne, a graduate of Effingham High School, joined the Army in February 2008. He served a previous combat tour in Iraq from September 2008 to September 2009, according to reports.
Sayne was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
