CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Calling Southern Illinois University Carbondale students:  Here’s your chance to be part of something special, a chance to connect your name with the Saluki tradition.

Now is the time to apply to be part of the Homecoming 2011 court.  The theme of this year’s Homecoming is “Once Upon a Time” and applications for the homecoming court are due no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.  Members of the court will attend various events during homecoming week, including the parade.  The coronation will take place during halftime of the 2 p.m. football game on Oct. 15.

All of the eligibility details and rules, as well as the application, are online at www.spc4fun.com.  Those interested in participating must submit their typed, completed applications along with other required documents at the Student Programming Council office on the third floor of the Student Center or electronically to homecoming@spc4fun.com.

Students will vote online for the court from Oct. 6 to 13.

Organizers are also accepting applications for parade entries and parade bands.  The parade is at 10 a.m. on Oct. 15 through downtown Carbondale and entry categories include: large float, small float, equestrian unit, marching unit and car/truck unit.  Entries are due by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12.

The deadline for bands to enter is Friday, Sept. 23, and bands will compete in Class A or B (for high school bands, divided by school enrollment) or Class C (for junior high bands).
