Volunteers sought for All-Majors Job Fair

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Volunteering can sometimes offer a glimpse of behind-the-scenes.  When the volunteering is for the All-Majors Job Fair hosted by Career Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the behind-the-scenes peek can offer insight into potential employers.

The All-Majors Job Fair is Oct. 19 in the Student Center Ballrooms, and volunteers are needed to make the event a success. The All-Majors Job Fair brings potential employers from a wide variety of industries and career paths to campus for a meet-greet-and-share-résumés-and-information opportunity.

Volunteers will help with check-in and set-up, including helping employers carry in their display materials, and volunteers will also assist with clean-up after the event.  Other volunteer responsibilities include general clean-up throughout the day, distributing beverages to employers and other as-needed jobs.

While Career Services needs volunteers throughout the day, the greatest need is 7-9 a.m. and 1-3 p.m., which coincide with set-up and breakdown.  Career Services prefers volunteers to sign up for two-hour shifts.

Volunteers should plan to follow a business-casual dress code -- khakis or slacks with a polo shirt or button-down shirt and comfortable shoes, for example.

Those interested in volunteering should contact Amy Johnson, preferably by email at ajohnsn53@siu.edu, or at 618/453-2391.  Give your preferred shifts or availability in the email.  Also email or call with questions.
