Civil Service Council to host trivia night

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Want to reminisce about the 1970s with great movies like “Smokey and the Bandit,” “Shaft,” Rocky,” and “Star Wars,” and history-making events of the Apollo moon landings and that “third-rate burglary” known as Watergate?  How about testing your knowledge of the 1980s, with the birth of MTV, popularity of “Miami Vice,” headbands, and parachute pants?

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Civil Service Council will host a trivia night, Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Murphysboro Elks Club, 1809 Shomaker Drive, Murphysboro.  Doors open at 5 p.m. with the event set for 6 to 9 p.m.

Proceeds go to the Civil Service Education Assistance Program.  There are no refunds.

Teams of four to eight people will compete for cash prizes given to first, second, and third place.  Single players will be assigned to a team.  The cost is $20 per person; $25 at the door.

There will also be a raffle, door prizes, and a silent auction.

Payments in cash, checks and money orders are acceptable.  Send checks and money orders, payable to SIUC, to Becky Armstrong, Professional Constituencies Office, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Woody Hall, C-114, Mailcode 4712. 900 S. Normal Ave., Carbondale, Ill., 62901.  Please include your email address and telephone number.  Participants will receive a confirmation letter and game rules upon payment.

More information is available by contacting Armstrong at 618/453-5249 or by email at bmolina@siu.edu.
