by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Dawgs Nite Out at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a giant welcoming event for students featuring games, entertainment, food, prizes and a great time for everyone.

All SIUC students are welcome at the festival, set for 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, at the Student Center.  Most of the activities are free with a valid University ID card.

Play a game of laser tag or take salsa and dance lessons.  Enjoy live music and rock band fun or play Bingo to win prizes.  You can make wax hands, personalized flip-flops, customized dog tags, photo flipbooks or your very own street signs.  You can also hop in the photo booth for a picture or get your likeness drawn by a caricaturist to immortalize the night.

Or, try your hand at creating dance head videos, playing the popular Dance Dance Revolution game or perhaps get a henna tattoo. The evening also features the humorous musical Midwest Dueling Pianos, a Latin DJ, an SPC-TV live broadcast and $1 games from Bowling and Billiards as well as special food pricing and promotions at McDonald’s, Saluki Sweets and Starbucks.

You won’t want to miss the film “The Hangover” showing at 10 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium.  There’s no charge for movie admission and everyone is welcome.

There’s even a free late-night pancake breakfast at Dawgs Nite Out.

Sponsors include University Housing, Saluki First Year, New Student Programs, Recreational Sports and Services, the Student Center, Residence Hall Association, Student Health-Wellness Center and the Student Programming Council.
