Saluki Startup to welcome new students
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Sometimes something new is so good it almost instantly becomes a tradition. So it is with Saluki Startup, a five-day welcome to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for new students.
Set for Aug 17-21, Saluki Startup is a long weekend’s worth of activities designed to introduce new students to Saluki culture and to acquaint them with the opportunities that make SIUC the best choice for students prepared to get involved right away with research, and hands-on and service learning.
Media Advisory
Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover Saluki Startup activities. If you are interested in move-in, that begins at 7 a.m. Aug.17 and Aug. 18. On Aug 18, Peter Gitau, dean of students and associate vice chancellor of student life and intercultural relations, will pick up Chancellor Rita Cheng at 6:30 a.m. at Anthony Hall to take her first to Mae Smith Hall and then to Thompson Point for move-in. We also recommend a new feature of Saluki Startup, the Chancellor’s New Student Convocation, set for 5-6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the SIU Arena.
