Rec Center offers 'School Daze Off' this fall

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- School holidays offer youngsters in the region the chance to enjoy a special treat courtesy of Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

School Daze Off is a program for youths in grades kindergarten through eighth. Each of the days, occurring when local elementary or junior high schools aren’t in session this fall, is full of assorted fun, safe activities. Each camp program includes crafts, games, sports activities and learning opportunities and wraps up with swimming in the Student Recreation Center pool.

School Daze Off are set for Sept. 17, Oct. 7, Oct. 10 and Nov. 11. Each session begins and ends in the Student Recreation Center’s small gymnasium. Participants should bring swimsuits, towels and a lunch.

The sessions are half-day programs on Sept. 16 and Nov. 11 with programming from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Early drop-off is at noon and late pick-up is 4:30 p.m. Both October sessions are full-day programs, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Early drop-off is 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up is 4:30 p.m.

The cost for the half-day programs is $15 for children of students, $ 20 for Recreation Center member children and $30 for non-members. Pricing for the full-day program is $25 for the children of students, $40 for member children and $55 for non-members. The children of faculty, staff, student and community members are welcome to participate.

Space is limited and registration on a first-come basis so sign up early after registration begins Aug. 16.

Registration deadlines are:

• Sept. 12 for the Sept. 16 session.

• Oct. 3 for the Oct. 7 session.

• Oct. 7 for the Oct. 10 program.

• Nov. 7 for the Nov. 11 program.
