Week of Welcome 2010

Lending a hand --Volunteering during Saluki Startup and the Week of Welcome is a great way to make new and returning Salukis feel at home. Here, Miriam Mastache, left, a student from Chicago and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, prepares to help new student, Chelsea Schmitz of Pana, settle in at Thompson Point prior to the start of last school year. Move-in assistance from sororities and fraternities, other student organizations and campus departments is a campus tradition. (Photo by Andrea Hahn) Download Photo Here

Volunteers needed for new student activities

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Take the time to help create a positive first impression for new Southern Illinois University Carbondale students by volunteering during Saluki Startup.

There are plenty of opportunities for members of the campus community and the community at large to volunteer. Saluki Startup is Aug. 18-21, and the Week of Welcome is Aug. 21-28.

Volunteer options include helping students move into the residence halls, to helping students plan their routes between classes, to assisting with Dawgs Nite Out. Volunteering for these events is fun, and for some volunteers it becomes an annual tradition.
