Media Advisory -- July 6-22 summer camps
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It is the middle of the summer but many camps and activities at Southern Illinois University Carbondale that are just getting started will provide the media with plenty of opportunities for stories and images.
The Division of Continuing Education hosts the camps, which run July 6-22. The details of each camp, opportune times for media visits and contact information for each camp are listed below.
Softball Pitching Camp, July 6-7 at the Student Recreation Center
This camp for grades 2-12 will focus efforts on teaching and improving softball pitching skills for participants by working them with instructors in smaller groups. For more information or to set up a media visit, contact Kerri Blaylock, saluki softball coach, at 618/453-5466.
Track & Field Pole Vault Camp, July 9 or 16 at Lew Hartzog Track
Junior high and high school students will receive coaching and personal evaluations of their pole-vaulting techniques. Media should contact Connie Price-Smith, Saluki track & field coach, at 618/453-5460 before arriving at camp.
Track & Field Thrower Camp, July 9, 10, 16 and/or 17 at Lew Hartzog Track
Male and female students will work on their skills in shot put and discus during their time at the camp. Media should contact Price-Smith at 618/453-5460 to schedule a visit.
Middle School Architecture Camp, July 10-15 at Quigley Hall.
Students in grades 7-9 will receive an understanding of built environments and the reasons for different types of designs. Media should contact Jon Davey, professor of architecture, at 618/453-3734.
Saluki Swim Camp, July 11-15 at the SIUC Recreation Center swimming pool
Campers 8 to 12 years old will experience water sports and games using the swimming pool and its diving platforms. Media are welcome at any time. Contact Vanessa Sneed at 618/536-7751 for more information.
Saluki Girls Volleyball Team Camp, July 13-15 at the SIU Arena
Full high school teams will train and play together against other teams in this competitive camp setting. Media are welcome 9:30-11:45 a.m., June 14-15. Contact Tammi Fried at 618/453-5476 for more information.
Advanced Robotics Camp, July 17-21 at Applied Sciences and Arts Technology Labs
Campers ages 13-18 will experience robotics with a focus on mechanical systems and programming. They will work together and compete with one another in teams. Media are welcome at any time but should contact Martin Hebel at 618/453-8806 to schedule an appointment.
High School Architecture Camp, July 17-22 at Quigley Hall
Camp participants will receive an understanding of built environments and the reasons for different types of designs. Media should contact Davey at 618/453-3734.
