Flags lowered to honor war casualty
Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of an Elgin soldier who died earlier this month.
Flags are at half-staff until sunset, Wednesday, June 29, in honor of U.S. Army Pfc. Timothy John “T.J.” Hansley.
Reports said Hansley, 21, died June 21 at a hospital in Texas, where he was stationed at Ft. Bliss. Hansley was receiving treatment for wounds received from an improvised explosive device while deployed in Iraq in 2009, in addition to training injuries late last year at Ft. Bliss.
Hansley graduated from South Elgin High School in 2008, and enlisted in the Army in 2009.
