Flags lowered to honor Du Quoin firefighter

Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a Du Quoin firefighter who died from injuries he received while fighting a fire in downtown Pinckneyville on Friday.
Flags are to be flown at half-staff immediately, until sunset, Wednesday, June 22, in honor of Corey R. Shaw, 22, of Du Quoin. Reports indicate Shaw died Friday, June 17, after he was injured fighting a fire that destroyed the old Kunz Opera House and Pinckneyville Antique Mall. Reports say Shaw was on a ladder when bricks from the east wall of the antique store struck Shaw as the wall collapsed. Shaw was airlifted and later died at St. Louis University Hospital.
Shaw had been a member of the Du Quoin Fire Department since July 2010; his father Bob Shaw is the Du Quoin fire chief.
