CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Saluki Swim Camp 2011 is set for July 11-15 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Recreation Center swimming pool.

Check-in each day is between 7:30 and 8 a.m. with the camp running 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and checkout between 4:30 and 5 p.m. These extended check-in and checkout times are for the convenience of working parents.

This camp is for children from ages 8 to 12, giving them the opportunity to experience the enjoyment of swimming and diving. To enjoy the camp’s water activities in this camp, participants need to be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards.

The Student Recreation Center’s Olympic-size natatorium features 10, 50-meter swimming lanes; 16, 25-yard swimming lanes; eight diving boards; and a 16-foot-deep diving well. In addition to swimming and diving, scheduled activities include a pizza party, canoeing and paddle boating at the campus beach (weather permitting) and bowling, billiards and arts and crafts at the SIUC Student Center.

Registration is $199 for participants who sign up before June 24 or $229 for all registrations after the early registration deadline. The registration fee includes daily lunches, a souvenir T-shirt, limited accident medical camper coverage and instruction and activities.

Saluki Swim Camp typically fills up quickly with registration on a first come basis. Due to limited enrollment, officials encourage early registration.
