College of Science awards scholarships
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Several students recently earned scholarships from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Science.
Kimberly R. Ash of Downs received the Pi Kappa Sigma Memorial Alumnae Scholarship for fall 2011 and spring 2012.
Ash, a pre-professional nursing major, is the daughter of Mike Ash of Galesville and Cheryl Ash of Downs and the sister of Kevin Ash of Galesville. She will be a May 2011 graduate of Tri-Valley High School in Downs.
Ash’s honors and activities include membership in the Key Club, Students Against Drunk Driving, Future Farmers of America and Superior Honor Roll.
Bria Noelle Ozment of Ava received the Dean’s Scholarship -- College of Science for fall 2011.
Ozment, a freshman zoology/pre-veterinarian major, is the daughter of Dr. Adrian and Lisa Feinerman of Ava. She attended Christ Our Savior Lutheran High School.
Ozment’s previous honors and activities include membership in the SIUC Honors Program, the SIUC College of Science Dean’s List and receiving a valedictorian scholarship.
Eric Ness of Peoria received the Michael W. Wolff Memorial Scholarship for fall 2011.
Ness, a junior zoology major, is the son of Lindy and David Ness of Peoria. He is a 2008 graduate of Richwoods High School in Peoria.
Cole McCormick of Mahomet received the Mark A. Montaba Memorial Scholarship for fall 2011 and spring 2012.
McCormick, a freshman biological sciences major, is the son of Flynn and Carleen McCormick of Mahomet. He is a 2010 graduate of Mahomet-Seymour High School.
McCormick’s previous honors and activities include making the SIUC College of Science Dean’s List.
Melany Mulligan of Carbondale received the Delyte W. Morris Scholarship for fall 2011.
Mulligan, a freshman pre-professional nursing major, is the daughter of April Vybomy of Carbondale and Roland Mulligan of Champaign. She is a 2010 graduate of Carbondale Community High School.
Mulligan’s previous honors and activities include membership in the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society, as well as receiving the SIU Alumni Association Scholarship and Carbondale Mayoral Scholarship.
Morgan Echols of Murphysboro received the Dean’s Scholarship -- College of Science for fall 2011.
Echols, a sophomore physiology major, is the daughter of Paul and Sheila Echols of Murphysboro. She is a graduate of Murphysboro High School.
Echols’ previous honors and activities include making the College of Science Dean’s List three times, receiving a SIU Alumni Association Scholarship, and an Inspiring Women scholarship.
Juan C. Benavides of Medellin, Colombia, received the R & E Padgett Scholarship for fall 2011 and spring 2012.
Benavides, a doctoral student in plant biology, is the spouse of Jenny Benavides of Pamplona, Colombia, and the son of Carlos and Diana Benavides of Medellin.
