Care packages will help take the edge off finals

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Final exams are on the horizon and a registered student organization at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is offering parents, faculty, staff and friends a way to give SIUC students a little extra TLC and stress relief at finals time.

The Saluki CEO Corps is taking orders for special care packages filled with all sorts of goodies including energy boosters, healthy snacks and stress relievers. There are three different care package options ranging in price from $20 for a nice basic package, featuring more than a dozen items, up to a $40 option.

Each package includes study tips, sticky notes, highlighters, fun stress buster games, hot chocolate, soup, easy macaroni and cheese, granola bars, gum, and other snacks and candy. The $30 and $40 packages also include eatery gift cards.

The deadline for placing orders is April 29. The order form is online at http://www.innovation.siu.edu/carePkg.html and payment by check, cash or credit card is acceptable.

Delivery is free any place on campus. When placing an order, you can select a time and date for delivery, within a two-hour timeframe, during final exams week, May 9-13.

The Saluki CEO Corps’ mission is “to inform, support and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunity through enterprise creation.” The care package project correlates with that goal and also gives people the chance to do something nice for students at a time when they perhaps need it most. Faculty advisers for the group are Maryon King, director of the Center for Innovation and associate professor of marketing in the College of Business; Jenni Janssen, assistant director of the Center for Innovation; and Lynn Andersen Lindberg, director of business innovation and research at SIUC.
