'Iron Chef' title up for grabs Saturday at SIUC
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A culinary battle of epic proportions is coming to the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus Saturday.
Okay, so perhaps epic is a bit of an exaggeration, but nevertheless it will be a heated competition as teams of students battle to become the 2011 SIUC Iron Chef. The contest is set for 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at the Quigley Hall Auditorium. The University community and public are welcome to come enjoy the contest, modeled after Japan’s famous Iron Chef competition and the popular Food Network television show of the same name.
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the 2011 SIUC Iron Chef competition from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the Quigley Hall Auditorium. For more information, contact Christopher Hernando at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Multicultural Programs and Services at 618/453-5714.
Each of the student teams has a minimum of four members and the teams will work under the clock with a secret ingredient to prepare original dishes for the contest. Prizes include Iron Chef aprons and gift certificates, along with the bragging rights.
The Seventh Annual SIUC Iron Chef competition is one of the many activities of the University’s Asian American Heritage Month. The United Asian American Council at SIUC is organizing the cooking challenge.
