Media Advisory
Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover the announcement of the winner of the Saluki Express Route 8 Bus Naming Contest. The announcement ceremony will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, in the Old Main Lounge on the second floor of the SIUC Student Center.
The SIUC Student Health Center Wellness Center sponsored the competition to promote the use of the bus route as a safe travel option for students. The bus runs from 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays covering a route including Carbondale areas heavily populated by or visited by students, including the campus and downtown.
All University students were eligible to enter the contest by submitting a name, a tag line to promote the route, and a design incorporating the name and tagline. Student voting continues until Thursday in the art gallery area at the south end of the Student Center. Organizers hope that by involving the students in naming the route it gives them a sense of ownership in the safe transportation route and expanded use of the bus.
