Ceramicist to present lecture, demonstration

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Ceramicist Nancy Gardner comes to the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a two-day visit this week.

Gardner presents a free lecture beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, in the University Museum Auditorium in Faner Hall. She will demonstrate her ceramics techniques in the ceramics classroom in the Industrial Wing of Pulliam Hall from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 4.

Gardner is a SIUC alumna, having earned a master of fine arts degree here in 1984. She runs her studio, Nancy and Burt Company, now in Oak Park.

Gardner is often on the road with her art, including recent appearances at fine art fairs in Ann Arbor, Mich., Madison, Wis., and St. Louis, Mo., where she was a featured artist or won an invitational award.

Gardner’s articles appear in such journals as “American Ceramics” and “New Art Examiner.” She has prior teaching experience at several institutions, including the College of Du Page and the Evanston Art Center.
