by Nicole Trainor

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- If you’ve ever been to a party, wedding or dinner dance and wish you felt comfortable getting up and dancing, or if you are looking for new and exciting ways to exercise or socialize, then Southern Illinois University Carbondale has just the thing for you.

The SIUC Division of Continuing Education is offering ballroom dancing courses for individuals who want to learn a variety of basic steps from the six most common ballroom dances. There are two different sessions for different skill levels.

The Beginning Ballroom Dancing class and the Beyond Beginner Ballroom Dancing classes each meet on Tuesday evenings for six weeks beginning March 1. The Beyond Beginner course meets 6-7:30 p.m. while the Beginning Ballroom Dancing class meets 7:30-9 p.m. Both will be in Room 116 at the Carbondale Civic Center. Couples and singles are welcome.

Dance instructors are Jeremiah Linson and Crystal Hodges of Paducah, Ky. The Beginning Ballroom Dancing class gives beginners and veteran dancers wanting a refresher a quick introduction to the basic steps in the waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha and swing including instruction in lead-follow and proper dance technique. The Beyond Beginner Ballroom Dancing class expands on the beginning course instruction and offers advanced techniques for ballroom dance.

The registration cost is $30 per participant for either course. For more information, or to register, contact the Division of Continuing Education at 618/536-7751 or visit the website at https://www.dce.siu.edu.
