by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Critical Forum, also known as C4, a Registered Student Organization at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, invites the Carbondale area community to submit art for the annual C4 Juried Art Exhibition.

This is the fifth anniversary for the event, which each year highlights student and community art at the Surplus Gallery in the Old Glove Factory (432 S. Washington Ave.) The event is a juried art exhibition featuring $500 in prizes and awards given to winners in the categories graduate student, undergraduate student and community member. Paul Ha, director of The Museum of Contemporary Art in St. Louis, is the judge this year.

C4 accepts all media, with a maximum size of 4 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet. Artists with entries can drop them off noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 at the Surplus Gallery. Entry forms are available in the Allyn Building on campus, and during entry drop-off. Entry fees are $20 for three pieces, with additional entries allowed at $5 per entry.

The exhibition is Feb. 15-18, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 18. An awards ceremony happens at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18.

C4 hosts exhibitions and student critiques with the goal of promoting “cooperation, collaboration and critical exchange” through visual arts. For more information about the School of Art and Design and student groups affiliated with it, visit http://artanddesign.siuc.edu.
