Media Advisory -- Guard Training
When members of the agribusiness development team of the Illinois Army National Guard deploy to Afghanistan next spring, they will take Saluki agricultural and forestry know-how with them. Members of the media may visit training sessions on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and Thursday, Dec. 9, for a look at the hands-on training offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale faculty in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
Wednesday’s program includes sessions on agricultural education and assessing the needs and knowledge base of Afghan farmers, agricultural mechanics, animal handling and foraging practices. Thursday’s program includes discussions of land tenure, and hands-on work with watersheds and erosion control.
