Faculty, graduate students’ art now on display

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The University Museum at Southern Illinois University Carbondale presents an annual exhibit that highlights some of the newest and the best of art produced by our own.

The Combined Faculty exhibit, running now through Dec. 12, features works from SIUC faculty across campus, including those in the School of Art and Design and the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts.

The annual MFA Preview exhibit runs concurrent with the Combined Faculty exhibit, giving museum visitors a unique opportunity to compare faculty and graduate students. The MFA Preview is a preparation for master of fine arts students who anticipate participating in the spring thesis exhibit.

Other exhibits currently on display at the museum include the Masters of Photography, highlighting some of the most exciting and rare photographic works in the permanent collection; and the Vogel Collection, which represents the Illinois portion of the Vogel Collection donated as a whole to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Carbondale Community Arts sponsors the Vogel Collection display as its biennial exhibit.

There is no charge to most exhibits at the University Museum, but donations help bring in visiting exhibits and special exhibits and are always welcome. The museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. Visit www.museum.siu.edu for more information.
