Library fund drive will help kids at Christmas

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Morris Library will help make the holidays better for a special group of people once again this year, and your help is welcome.

For the eighth consecutive year, the library is joining with radio personality Pat Benton to raise money for Pat’s Kids, a fundraiser Benton founded in conjunction with his Magic 95.1 radio show to benefit the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children in its mission of support for local women’s shelters. Donations to Pat’s Kids go to the shelters in the names of children living there. Counselors then shop with family members to buy Christmas gifts and items the children need, assuring a nice holiday for children who might otherwise have little or no Christmas celebration.

At Morris Library, faculty, staff, students and community members may donate to this worthwhile cause by dropping off a donation at the circulation desk or at the library’s administrative office no later than Thursday, Dec. 9. You may “adopt” a child for the holiday with a cash donation or with a tax-deductible check made out to the Poshard Foundation.

Each time a contribution comes in another ornament will go on the Christmas tree in the north entrance foyer of the library. The goal is collecting $2,000 at Morris Library.
