Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of an Edgar County firefighter who suffered a fatal heart attack while at the scene of a fire.

Flags are at half-staff beginning today, Nov. 4, until Saturday, Nov. 6, in honor of firefighter Gary L. Cummins of the Brocton Fire Protection District.

Reports say Cummins, 61, of Brocton, suffered the heart attack while at a the scene of a residential fire on Sunday, Oct. 31. Reports say Cummins was moving a fire department vehicle when he was stricken. Cummins had not entered the residence, and was not actively engaged in fighting the fire, according to reports.
