Ten questions with ... Janet Meadows

Job on campus/department you work in: Administrative aide to the dean of the College of Engineering

How long at SIUC: 26 years

Hometown: Cobden

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? A registered nurse.

People don’t know that you…One of the biggest “thrills” for me is when a plane first lifts off the runway. Once I hear the engines start to accelerate I will become comfortable in my seat and put down my book and patiently wait for those few seconds!

If you could choose another profession, what would it be and why? Catering. I enjoy cooking and especially baking. I find it rewarding to be creative in preparing and displaying the food.

What is something you still want to accomplish in life? I want to travel. I have decorated my office with the many postcards that I have received from family, friends, faculty, staff and students from their travels. When asked if I have been to all these places I reply, “No, this is my dream board.”

What was the first “album” you ever bought, and was it an LP, 8-track or CD? That was a long time ago. In my case, it was probably a 45.

What is one random fact about you? I love to dance -- ballroom, salsa, however!!!! After I turned 50, I took two years of Middle Eastern dance. Enjoyed every minute!

Cats or dogs? I do not have a pet but if I did it would definitely be a dog.

What is your favorite food and why? I do not have a favorite food but I do enjoy a “home cooked” meal sitting around a dining room/kitchen table. I have many memories of good food and laughter shared with others.

What is your pet peeve? People who belittle and manipulate others.

What would you like your gravestone to say about you? She saw life as an adventure.
