Zumba for the Cure will assist cancer patients
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Zumba for the Cure at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a chance to join in the fun fitness craze sweeping the world while raising funds to fight cancer in Southern Illinois.
The event is set for 4-6 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Student Recreation Center. Organizers anticipate a big turnout for the Zumba marathon, featuring the popular fitness program that combines Latin rhythms with easy to follow moves. Participants will seek sponsors to make donations for their participation in the marathon.
Along with two hours of party Zumba, Zumba for the Cure will offer door prizes and educational cancer and health information from Southern Illinois Healthcare. Mercedes Gomez will also amaze one and all with a hula-hoop demonstration.
Proceeds of the event will go toward combating cancer and cancer awareness. This event is happening during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Business Leadership Council, a Registered Student Organization, is hosting Zumba for a Cure in partnership with SIUC Recreational Sports and Services.
Banterra Bank is also providing special T-shirts, available for purchase at the Student Recreation Center’s Lifestyle Enhancement Center. The $20 cost, along with proceeds of Zumba for a Cure, will go to Southern Illinois Healthcare’s Foundation for Cancer Patients to assist cancer patients in the southern 16 counties of Illinois.
