Professional Etiquette Dinner set for Oct. 20

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Proper dining etiquette in formal settings takes a little know-how and the Fall 2010 Professional Etiquette Dinner at Southern Illinois University Carbondale gives participants all of the valuable information and skills to make it happen.

University Housing and Career Services are collaborating to sponsor the event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. It will be in Lentz Hall’s Dining Room #5.

SIUC students will enjoy a five-course meal prepared by the acclaimed Chef Bill and his culinary staff. As participants dine, they will learn all about making a favorable impression while eating out, whether for business or pleasure.

Find out about selecting a wardrobe that creates a favorable impression, handshake techniques and marketing yourself during interviews, business meetings and seminars. Those attending the dinner won’t have to wonder ever again which fork to use when or any of those other dining intricacies that could derail you when you’re trying to make a good impression on those you’re dining with.

Tickets are $15 each and you can purchase them in the Residence Hall Dining office on the lower level of Grinnell Hall. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets sales are in advance only. The deadline to purchase a ticket is Oct. 18.

Organizers suggest students wear office attire to the Etiquette Dinner. For more information, look online at www.housing.siu.edu or call 618/453-3788 or 618/453-2649.
