by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Printmaker Joel B. Feldman leads off the Visiting Artist Program roster for 2010-11 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s School of Art and Design.

Feldman will be on campus Sept. 13-17 for a two-day master class and an artist lecture. The master class is Sept. 14 and Sept. 16, beginning both days at 2 p.m. until 4:50 p.m. in the printmaking department in Allyn Hall. The lecture is set for 7 p.m. in the University Museum auditorium.

Feldman, currently of Lexington, Ky., formerly served on the faculty at SIUC in the School of Art and Design. The University Museum hosted a retrospective of his work in 2005.

Feldman’s recent work includes solo exhibitions at the Zephyr Gallery in Louisville, Ky., the Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University in New York, and the St. Louis Art Guild. He was also part of exhibitions recently at the Gardenfresh Gallery in Chicago, the Center for the Living Arts in Mobile, Ala., and, in Beijing, China, at the 798 Photo Gallery. Another notable Feldman collection was a major part of an ongoing exhibit at the Illinois State Museum, the Forms of Contemporary Illinois.

Feldman’s grants and residencies include both grants and a fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council, a Visual Arts Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a Visiting Artist Residency at the Glasgow School of Art and Design in Scotland.

The master class and the lecture are free and open to the public. The Visiting Artist Program in SIUC’s School of Art and Design brings artists of various media to campus for workshops and lectures. The Fine Arts Activity Fee funds this program.
