New Arts Jazztet to perform in Mount Vernon

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The New Arts Jazztet comes to the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon as part of the Southern Illinois Music Festival, based at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on June 15. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $4 for all students.

The New Arts Jazztet formed in 1983 at SIUC and has been a strong presence ever since. Current members are: founding member Bob Allison (trumpet), Phil Brown (bass), Ron Coulter (drums), Mel Goot (piano), “newbie” Dick Kelley (reeds), and Tim Pitchford, trumpet.

The jazztet also appears as part of the music festival on June 22 at the Herrin Civic Center.
