by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Fans of international football can watch the sport’s premier event, the 2010 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Center.

The FIFA World Cup makes its first appearance on the African continent June 11 to July 11 with South Africa as host. The Student Center’s Bowling and Billiards area is offering “front row” seats to all the action on eight-foot, drop-down screens in the bowling area. They will air the soccer action any time the Student Center is open.

You can view the action from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11, but the Student Center won’t be open June 12-13. However, on June 14, the Student Center’s summer schedule kicks in, meaning it will be open 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. During the summer semester, the Student Center does not open on Sundays.

There’s no charge to watch FIFA World Cup South Africa at the Student Center. Everyone is welcome.
