Concert features guitar seminar participants

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- There’s not a test at the end, but there is a public performance.

Joseph Breznikar, professor of guitar in the School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, presents the 29th Annual Summer Guitar Seminar and its annual end-of-seminar concert.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on June 10 in Quigley Hall auditorium. The classical guitar concert features students in the advanced level seminar. The concert is free.

Breznikar said there are still a few spots available in the seminar, which runs June 7-11. Advanced students -- those with a substantial classical guitar repertoire -- should sign up for Performer I. Sessions focus on individual participation, and run two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Performer II is for beginning guitarists or for those without classical guitar experience. Sessions with Performer I students focus on observation and general instruction. Additional half-hour sessions for Performer II students focus on individual performance.

The regular deadline for registration is over, so interested late registrants should check with Breznikar for availability. He can be reached at jbrznkr@siu.edu.
