Curriculum and Instruction students win awards

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Twelve undergraduate and graduate students in the Curriculum and Instruction program earned recognition and awards recently during Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s annual Honors Day ceremonies.

The program is part of the College of Education and Human Services.

Here is a list of scholarship winners, by hometown. Where available, the listing contains the winner’s name, year in school, major, scholarship name, amount, parents and/or spouse.

Carbondale: Eun Jin Hwang, doctoral student, early childhood education. James D. and Nancy L. Quisenberry Endowed Scholarship, $460.

Carterville: Travis Cook, senior, elementary education, Marion and Madelyn Scott Treece Elementary Education Scholarship, tuition and fees for two semesters totaling approximately $11,000.

Equality: Kara Lynn Crayne, senior, secondary education-mathematics. Curriculum and Instruction Highest Honors in Mathematics Secondary Education, $500; daughter of Michael and Rebecca Crayne.

Flora: Beth Buckley, senior, elementary education. Marion and Madelyn Scott Treece Elementary Education Scholarship, tuition and fees for two semesters totaling approximately $11,000; daughter of John and Vickie Buckley of Flora.

Grayslake: Regina Dedominicis, senior, elementary education. Marion and Madelyn Scott Treece Elementary Education Scholarship, tuition and fees for two semesters totaling approximately $11,000; spouse of Vince Dedominicis.

Herrin: Leah Chiaventone, senior, early childhood education, Shirley M. Rogers Memorial Endowed Scholarship, $650; daughter of Russell and Judy Chiaventone.

Marion: Courtney Renee Bogle, senior, elementary education. Curriculum and Instruction Highest Honors Award in Elementary Education, $500; daughter of Charles and Carolyn Hayes of Marion, and spouse of Derek Bogle.

Murphysboro: Jessica Kay Herring, senior, elementary education and music education. Elementary Education Student Organization Scholarship, $150; Marion and Madelyn Scott Treece Elementary Education Scholarship, tuition and fees for two semesters totaling approximately $11,000; daughter of Ray and Teresa Herring.

Pinckneyville: Bryant John Hale, junior, elementary education-mathematics education. Bernice Newton Gore Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education, $1,000; Fred and Eunice Banes Scholarship, $300; son of Greg and Elizabeth Hale.

Christin Elizabeth Harris, senior, special education and elementary education. Bernice Newton Gore Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education, $1,800; Bill G. and Marjorie Allen Endowed Scholarship, $600, and Dormalee Harrington Lindberg ACEI Scholarship, $180; daughter of the Rev. J. Mark and Michele Harris.

Taylorville: Katie Fletcher, senior, early childhood education-child and family services. Curriculum and Instruction Highest Honors in Early Childhood Education-Child and Family, $500; daughter of Yvonne Fletcher.

Vienna: Sara West, senior, early childhood education. Dr. Cleveland and Mrs. Yvonne Hammonds Scholarship, $600; daughter Larry and Debra Brown.
