SIUC to host volleyball camps, specialty clinics

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Saluki volleyball is offering several camps and specialty clinics this summer for junior high and high school girls who want to improve their skills on the court.

The volleyball camps and clinics provide instruction for individuals, teams and specialty positions. Participants can expect to improve their skills, enhance their techniques and increase team output and motivation for the upcoming season. The specialty clinics will assist players in developing their full potential within their chosen specialized position.

The University is hosting three one-day specialty clinics for players from grades 6-12 this summer. The Setter/Middle Hitters Clinic will be June 5. The Saluki Volleyball Outside Hitter Clinic is set for June 12 and the Defensive Specialist Clinic is June 19.

Each clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in SIUC’s Davies Gym. The registration fee is $65 per clinic. To register for any of these clinics call Julie Yankus at 618/453-5476.

The schedule also includes additional camp sessions for teams and individuals. The Junior High Volleyball Camp will be June 21-23. Participants will learn fundamental skills and teamwork. Registration for overnight campers is $220. The cost for commuters is $170.

The High School Individual and Team Camp is July 7-9. This camp provides technique enhancement for all participants. There will be instruction in offensive and defensive tactics and an emphasis on improving team chemistry and teamwork. Each team attending will train and compete as a team. Camp participants who attend as individuals will on with a team for the competition phase of the camp. Registration for overnight campers is $255 while commuters pay $200.

All clinic and camp registrations are due no later than June 1.
