Cooperative Youth Conference set for June 3-4

by Amanda Scott

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Division of Continuing Education along with the College of Agricultural Sciences presents the 2010 Cooperative Youth Conference June 3-4.

This conference provides high school juniors and seniors an exciting and educational opportunity to learn about cooperatives through hands-on activities. Participants will go on a field trip to see local cooperatives in action and attend workshops led by experienced cooperative employees. Students will gain insight into important qualities of all types of cooperatives. Speakers include current and/or former employees of GROWMARK, Inc., Farm Credit Services, CoBank, Illinois Department of Agriculture, Mid America Cooperative Council, and the Illinois Farm Bureau.

The Cooperative Youth Conference will begin at 9 a.m. on June 3 and wrap up the following day on the SIUC campus. Participants must submit a $30 deposit to hold their spot. They will get the deposit back when they attend the conference because participants attend free, courtesy of cooperative or county Farm Bureau sponsorships.

If you are a member of a cooperative or county Farm Bureau that values area young people and wish to support an educational opportunity for future consumers and members, contact Jackie Welch at 618/536-7751. Individual sponsorships are $95 per conference attendee.
