English students earn scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Department of English at Southern Illinois University Carbondale recently honored several of its top students with scholarships as the 2009-10 academic year closes.

Samuel Holley (Peoria), a senior, earned the William Lewis Farmer Memorial Scholarship, presented to an outstanding graduate or undergraduate English major.

Alexandra Rude (Rockford) received the Louis and Monica Petroff Memorial Award, which goes to an outstanding student in English or sociology. Rude is a junior majoring in English.

The Thelma Louise Kellogg Scholarships, presented to outstanding English majors went to:

• Amy McKenzie (Marion) -- Top Graduating Senior

• Alex Gholson (Carmi)

• Alexandra Maass (Delavan)

• Alex Gholson (Carmi)
