Anthropology students capture awards
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Department of Anthropology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale honored several of its students as the academic year 2009-10 comes to a close.
Seth Russell (Carterville) claimed the Kate Burkhart Archaeology Scholarship, a one-year scholarship awarded to an anthropology major specializing in archaeology for the junior or senior year of study.
The Rice Undergraduate Essay Award went to Sam Packard (Champaign). The award goes to the best unpublished undergraduate research paper written in the previous year. The paper must meet standards for a publishable paper.
Other award recipients are:
• Rachael M Huszar (Oshkosh, Wis.) -- Outstanding Sophomore in Anthropology.
• Ashley Sheenhan (Crystal Lake) -- Outstanding Junior in Anthropology.
• Stephanie K. Chambers (Mount Vernon) and Kathryn J. Stephens (Joliet) -- Excellence in Anthropology Senior Award-High Honors.
• Erin R. Hughes (Streator) and Kaitlin I. Adams (Energy) -- Excellence in Anthropology Senior Award-Honors.
