Morris Library hosting art showings in rotunda

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- There is an interesting new feature at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s renovated Morris Library.

The library is now hosting art showings. Jerod Sloan’s wood and metal sculptures are the first of the works featured in the Morris Library Rotunda Art Space, located on the first floor.

Sloan is a first year master of fine arts student at SIUC. A native of Norton, Kan., Sloan holds a 2009 bachelor’s in fine arts from Fort Hayes State University with an emphasis on sculpture.

He describes his work as formally based with a classical influence and recently he’s explored the use of classical accents, scrolls, pin stripes and other features. The show continues through May 12.

The rotunda will feature artistic works on a regular basis, according to Megan Lotts, fine arts librarian. For more information about the current display or showing your work in the Morris Library Rotunda Art Space, contact Lotts at mlotts@lib.siu.edu or by calling 618/453-2663.
