‘Chat’ answers future business students’ questions
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- New and prospective students can learn answers to many of their questions through a new service from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Business.
Online chat sessions allow admitted and prospective students to connect with all of the right people to learn about the college and its courses and programs, academic advisement, careers and more. The next chat for prospective and admitted students is set for Thursday, April 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Faculty, staff, alumni and current students will be online. Representatives from the business college’s academic departments, academic advisement, business placement center, office of minority affairs and enrollment management will be fielding questions of all kinds. Participating students can find out about the business programs and careers along with learning about course options, the School of Accountancy Freshman Interest Group housing opportunity, career placement and virtually anything they are pondering as they plan their futures.
“The online chat is a great way for the college to connect with students on their level, in a format that is convenient for them. We want to make sure that we meet our students’ needs, regardless of what phase of the application process they have completed,” said Jill M. Gebke, director of enrollment management for the College of Business.
Gebke said the college plans are to have the online chats about once a month. The inaugural chat March 1, with little fanfare, drew numerous student participants with an assortment of queries.
Students can access the chat by logging on and using their VIP information at the undergraduate Web sitehttp://groupchat02.askadmissions.net/01/Landingpage.aspx?clientname=siu.

Dates and times for future chats will appear on the College of Business home page at www.business.siuc.edu. Also, e-mails will go to prospective students already in contact with the business college.
