Flags lowered to honor war casualty
Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a U.S. Army soldier killed earlier this month while serving the military in the war in Iraq.
Flags are to be flown at half-staff beginning today, Thursday, March 25, until sunset, Saturday, March 27, in honor of Staff Sgt. Richard Joe Jordan.
Reports indicate that Jordan, 29, formerly of Antioch, was killed March 16, in Mosul, Iraq from injuries received in a vehicle accident while on patrol Reports indicate that Jordan, who lived in the Detroit area with his wife and two children, graduated from Antioch Community High School in 1998.
Reports say Jordan was deployed to Iraq in November. He also spent four years as an Army recruiter in Detroit. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division from Fort Bliss, Texas.
