CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An April event from Southern Illinois University Carbondale offers the opportunity to really experience some of the region’s beauty, up close and personal.

The University’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center is sponsoring a public rock climb from 1 to 5 p.m. on April 11. Anyone age 10 or older is welcome to participate in the climb at Devil’s Stand Table. After climbers reach the top, they will get to rappel down from the cliff.

The cost is $20 for adults or $15 for students. You must register in advance to participate and registration is limited to the first 20 to sign up. To claim a spot, or for more information, call 618/453-1121 or look online at www.ton.siu.edu.

The climbing group will meet at the Touch of Nature Environmental Center administration parking lot. The center is located about 7.5 miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road.
