Flags lowered to honor senior parole agent

Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a Chicago police sergeant killed earlier this week while responding to a burglary call.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff beginning today, Wednesday, Feb. 24, until sunset, Friday, Feb. 26, in honor of Chicago Police Department Sgt. Alan Haymaker.

Reports say that Haymaker, 56, died Monday, Feb. 22, from injuries received when his squad car hit a light pole along Lake Shore Drive near Irving Park Road. A third generation Chicago police officer, Haymaker joined the department in 1988, according to reports.
